Whiskey River, 1025 N. Old World 3rd, has closed.

The bar closed last night, around 9:30, according to staff members, and there are no plans to reopen.

The bar originally opened in 2006 as Bootleggers but issues between the bar owners, management and neighbors led to a one-month license suspension in 2010 and a one-year shutdown of its rooftop deck.

New owners stepped in last fall and closed the bar for a month, reopening it as Whiskey River, the same as the group's other properties in La Crosse and Madison.

Went there once, last year, and on a Saturday, and it was closed - never been back.

Must of not been well received - wonder if it was a nicer place ... that street is known for a particular crowd and if not catering towards them ..... any place there will fail.

what I knew about the place, is that they hired all ex-hooters girls, so they had a somewhat attractive staff....but was told the place was run like bootleggers, and had slow to moderate service.  I know from the webfliers that we have posted on this site, that they had some killer specials....but I think they were a weird hybrid of Buckhead's and Suite, and no one was really into the idea for that neighborhood.

pretty identical to the specials going on for the street.  just think it was flipped so suddenly with minimal changes to the interior and ways of operation. that entire area is difficult to have a business in.....summertime, everyone is at the festivals.....rest of the year you are fighting for parking with everyone going to Bradley Center and the W.C.D.  So if you don't budget properly, you're going to lose your ass and go belly up with all your overhead waste.  shrugs.

still feel walkers point is going to be the next boom area.....that water street/old world 3rd is on the decline for business...milwaukee street will soon be a ghost town.....3rd Ward is the hidden gem area to have a great evening without dealing with bullshit...and that cathedral square area is the hotspot for nightlife currently.

There wasn't anything special about Whiskey River. Redrock blows it out of the water and Buckheads is better and only across the street. So why bother with it?

ok, I've had this question about both places, and seeing as how you're a fan of Redrock, can you explain the differences to me?

Redrock is supposed to be just a country western / rock venue....but from what's been said to me, they borderline on top-40 dance and hip-hop for the majority of their music, and do many "dance clubish" things for entertainment.  and Whiskey River, I never entered, but was told they were almost identical to what Redrock is, except they didn't have the mechanical bull.   so....what were the differences?

Redrock does do a lot of country western/rock. Usually when I'm there they have live acts or the dj is mixing primarily country music along with some newer music.
I've only been to Whiskey River once and they just so happened to have a (supposedly) big act there that same night and the place was pretty much dead.

shrugs...guess i dont' have to worry about 1 of the places, and the other needs to get a much better reputation for service and taking care of the guests before I'll go back.  don't want to have the "3 strikes your out" thingy with them.

I've never ate there so I don't have an opinion on the food service. Drink service has always been prompt.

you are my first friend to say this.  I'll ask around and see if anyone has been back to find out if things have changed for the better there across the board, of if they're just taking care of you because of your bewbies Smiley
