John Hawks Pub will get a revised menu and a makeover as the longtime downtown restaurant changes hands.
Robert Bell, who founded the English-style eatery in 1971, has agreed to sell to Brian Ward, owner of Ward's House of Prime, also downtown. Bell plans to retire in early May.
Ward said in a statement that he will change the John Hawks menu, adding soups, salads and new sandwiches to the traditional English fare. Ward also plans to give the restaurant's deli more of "a New York style approach" and will renovate the entire facility. Changes will include the addition of several large-screen televisions and games in the bar.
Originally located on Broadway, Hawks moved in 1990 to 100 E. Wisconsin Ave., where the restaurant includes a patio along the Milwaukee River.
